The food is a massive attraction for a lot of visitors to Thailand. Many people like to try and cook some of their favourite Thai dishes at home to remind them of their trip to the Land of Smiles. If you love the spicy and sweet taste of sweet chilli sauce and want to try making this yourself, below is a simple recipe to make it. It can be the perfect accompaniment for many dishes and is an authentic taste of Thailand.

What You Will Need

To make an authentic Thai sweet chilli sauce at home, you will need to get all your ingredients together and the equipment you will need. The equipment you will need is as follows:

  • Blander (You can also use a chopping board and knife, but a blender is easier)
  • Small Saucepan
  • A Jar to store the sauce

When you have the equipment you need, you will also need to weigh out the ingredients, and you will need the following.

  • 20 Red Chilli’s
  • A Piece Of Ginger About The Size Of A Finger
  • Five Cloves Of Garlic
  • 100ml of Cider Vinegar Or White Wine
  • 200g Of White Caser Sugar

Once you have everything you will need together, you will need to do a little preparation before you start cooking your sweet chilli sauce.

Preparing The Ingredients

Now it is time to start getting everything ready, and you will want to chop up the chilli finely, and if you do not want it too spicy, remove the seeds and stems. You will also want to chop up the garlic into small pieces and then do the same with the ginger. You can run everything through the blender to ensure it is all finely chopped, but you can also do this by hand. Add all the ingredients except the sugar, and mix it, which you can do in the blender if you want.

Transfer the mixture to the small saucepan and add 100ml of water and sugar. You will then want to simmer the mixture gently for about fifteen minutes until it has a syrup-like consistency. When the mixture coats the back of the spoon easily, and the bottom of the pan shows when stirring, it is not far from being finished. Simmer gently for a further five minutes, and then remove from the heat. Let the mixture cool down for a few hours, which will also help the chilli to infuse properly. Once cool, put the mixture in a small jar, and you have your homemade sweet chilli sauce that will bring back those special memories of your trip to Thailand.
